Louisville Punks

A Radio History

December of 2007 a documentary we created called "Louisville Punks, a radio history", aired on WFPK Radio Louisville.

For years Louisville has been known as an original music Mecca. But before there were hard-edged acts like Kinghorse, Squirrel Bait and Slint, there were the original Louisville Punk bands: groups like The Blinders, The Endtables and The Babylon Dance Band rocked the River City. Join me for a look back at the punk scene that grew up here in the late 1970's and '80s.

The show originally aired in three one hour segments on Thursday nights.

I have made very high quality mp3 archives of the shows available on my humble website.

Thanks to WFPK Radio (The best damn radio station in Louisville)

Brad Yost, and Stacy Owen for helping make this documentary possible.

What some listeners and  participants have had to say about the documentary

Dear Marion,

I just heard the second segment of your history of Louisville's punk rock
scene via the modern wonder of streaming audio here in New York tonight.
Tara Key had alerted me to the first installment last week but I wasn't able
to check it (looking forward to the archive!). Tara emailed again tonight to
alert to #2 and I was here at the computer and so, ok then!

POINT >>> what a great program! It was so well produced all the way around.
Great editing, great interviews; great arc; great sound; Great. Revealing
'secret' history, oh man .. so few flash point region specific (or
otherwise) periods in musical history get the kind of loving, respectful and
professional attention and treatment that was so evident you gave this
incredibly fertile and joyous time.

So, I just wanted to give you props on a fantastic job. Please send an email
to let me know when the whole series is archived at wfpk's site (A. so I can
hear installment #1 and B. so I can email other folks to check them).
I'm sketching in next Wednesday at 8pm for #3...

OK; back to work!

[ and again -- a serious high five on your work which was obviously driven
by love and respect ]

Steven J.

thank you. thank you. thank you.
beyond the fact that i love hearing good things about myself(!) damn girl you just did a hella job telling a story. i mean this should go capital letters NPR national!
seriously.

it feels so cool to sit here in nyc in the room 5 feet from where i worked those recordings over good and think about us being heard all over the ville.

waiting to turn into oxmoor. driving along blankenbaker lane. parked in cox's park. blazing down cane run road heading to river road heading to mike lining's.
that blows my mind.

it feels REAALLY good to know people are finally hearing about us (all). thank you a million times for making sure that happened. i am yes blown away.
